The Hearst Castle is an amazing place. Designed to look old world, it is a pastiche of various European styles, strung together without any historical context or aesthetic guidelines. I took this batch of photos on a recent visit.

The density of imagery is striking. Seemingly every single inch of this vast estate is slathered in visual decoration, all thematically built around the whimsical and erratic interests of the fantastically wealthy man who paid for it all. It’s dizzying.

I hope to go back eventually and shoot it with medium and wide lenses to try to convey the impact of the spaces and buildings nestled into those beautiful hills, but I shot with longer lenses on this trip to focus on minutia.
